Step Ahead Physiotherapy is a physiotherapy clinic located at Backworks Clinic in Southend. It opened its doors in 2019.
​
All the physiotherapists that work for us are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

KAREN LAWRENCE
Director
Karen studied for both her undergraduate degree in Sports and Exercise Science and her Masters in Physiotherapy at the University of Essex, she graduated in 2013 and then spent 2 years working for Mid Essex Hospital Trust where she worked in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
​
Alongside working in the NHS, Karen also worked for a Strength and Conditioning gym, where she developed her knowledge of Olympic lifting. In 2015, Karen moved to work in London for a private sports injury clinic.
​
Since graduating she has also continued to work for a semi-professional rugby club, where she is now the lead physio and oversees the running of the medical department.
​
She has a keen interest in lower limb sports injuries, biomechanics and post surgical rehabilitation. She is skilled at treating tendinopathies, sports injuries, back and neck pain and general musculoskeletal conditions.
​
Outside of work, Karen keeps active by playing netball, swimming and training at the gym.
